Whenever pet owners in general decide to take an airborne trip with their dog, it is imperative that they are well prepared for such a journey. This is especially true for Pitt Bull Terriers, which you plan on taking in the plane with you. There are certain parameters you must follow if your intention is that the dog is allowed in the plane. Plus, there are a number of precautions that you should be aware of in order to make a successful journey.

The first step in planning your trip would be to inform the airline that you plan to travel with your dog, and the breed of the dog is a Pitt Bull. Depending on the airline and the country of origin of the flight, different rules will apply in every particular situation. You should probably search ahead for the different rules and regulations that apply with each airline in order to find out which one is more convenient to you. Once the reservations have been made and travel for your dog has been arranged, you should plan on calling a couple weeks ahead just to confirm everything is still the same. Unexpected situations that arise in the last minute could produce unfortunate delays, or cancel your trip all together.

In the United States it is not required that you carry your pet’s medical exam with you at all times, however, the rules are different when traveling internationally. In most countries, not only are you required to have a certified medical certificate of your pet, but you are also required that the certificate be no more than three months old. Keep the documents referring to your pet handy, do not pack them in your bags, since you don’t know when you will asked for them by the airport authority.

It is also of crucial importance that your Pitt Bull wears a collar with a name tag at all times. The included information in the collar should contain his name, the date of his last rabies vaccination, and perhaps his license number and tag with contact information. The contact information should include the owner’s name, telephone number and perhaps an address. Your Pitt Bull should be properly identified in order to be able to trace him back to you should he get misplaced. Before purchasing a kennel for traveling, do your homework and find out what the airline’s specifications are in terms of size and design of the kennel.

Avoid putting things inside the kennel that would roll around, such as toys and pillows, your dog should be able to withstand a few hours in the plane without and should be back to playing dog games in no time. When travelling with dogs, passengers are usually required to be at the airline a few hours earlier than other passengers. Avoid feeding your pet just before departure, yet have some water handy in case the flight is delayed.

If you gather all the necessary information provided by the airline for passengers travelling with their pet, there should be absolutely no problems and the trip should be a happy experience for both.
