In fact, the fruit almost hides the bouquet's other nuances. Full-bodied and rich, with a viscous texture, this lusty, unrestrained wine will be appreciated by tasters looking for immediate gratification. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.

2003 Sigalas-Rabaud

Ex-chateau bottle tasted blind in Sauternes. The Sigalas Rabaud ’03 has turned out to be one of the finest Sauternes of the vintage. It has an attractive nose of lemon curd, dried pineapple and mango – touches of yellow flower and lanolin developing with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening. This is well-balanced with a lovely candied core of fruit, citrus acidity and commendable precision on the fresh, vital, effervescent finish. I would seek out this lovely wine that has genuine long-term potential. Drink now-2030. Tasted April 2013.

2006 Sigalas-Rabaud

Medium gold with a honeyed, waxy nose, displaying some new oak, lots of vanillin and wood spice, with a sweetness redolent of caramelized oranges and almonds, this wine is rich and full-bodied with loads of finesse and precision given the very good acidity. This is a seriously endowed wine that could get even better over the next 20 years.

The Sigalas-Rabaud has a ripe honeyed nose that does not quite possess the penetration or complexity of its peers. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening. This is quite tight and backward although the finish shows there is plenty of concentration that will require continued cellaring to really open up. Tightly coiled and still boasting that lovely nutty, almost Azsu-like finish, this could repay further cellaring
