Coffee bean, toasty oak and berry jam notes follow through to a full body, with cola and berry flavors and a long finish. Stylish. Almost New World in character. Much better than from barrel. Best after 2012. 375 cases made. –JS

Château Fombrauge 2008 - Wine Advocate #194 May 2011 Robert M. Parker, Jr. 87

Composed of 77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the soft, silky, up-front, plush 2008 exhibits a dark plum/garnet hue along with seductive aromas of red and black fruits, damp earth, charcoal and roasted herbs. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.

Château Fombrauge 2010 - Wine Advocate #205 Feb 2013 Robert M. Parker, Jr. 91

This is one of the better, more supple Fombrauge wines to date, with a better integration of toasty oak than I have usually seen at this stage of this wine’s development. The grapes were picked late, with the harvest finishing on October 22, and that has given the wine wonderful ripeness and plenty of chocolaty espresso notes intermixed with incense, black cherries and black currants. The oak is subtle, and the wine full-bodied, attractive, deep, round and generous. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

Château Fombrauge 2011 - Wine Advocate #212 Apr 2014 Robert M. Parker, Jr. 89

The estate of Bernard Magrez has fashioned an attractive dark ruby/purple-colored 2011 offering lots of mulberry and black cherry fruit as well as a sexy, soft, round core, velvety tannin and a heady, lush, seductive finish. It is another brilliant effort from Bernard Magrez’s team. A sleeper of the vintage, it should provide immense pleasure over the next 7-10 years.
