This opaque purple wine has sweet fruit, and lots of it, giving up notes of blackberries and black currants, but not a lot of additional subtlety or complexity. It is juicy, relatively powerful, but at the same time, monolithic and not as nuanced or impressive as many of its nearby neighbors. Nevertheless, there is a lot here, and time should prove to be favorable to this relatively back-strapping, muscular, full-bodied Margaux. Polished and approachable, with plum and blackberry confiture notes that give way to a rounded, lightly toasted, licorice-tinged finish, A flash of mesquite lends just enough grip at the very end. Best from 2015 through 2020. 9,165 cases made. –JM
