Overview
Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, tracing its roots back to papal times. The 2021 vintage exemplifies the estate’s commitment to tradition and the purity of its biodynamically farmed vineyards.
History & Terroir
Located on the famed plateau of La Crau, La Nerthe’s sandy, galet-studded soils yield low yields packed with intense flavor. The unique clay-limestone subsoil, combined with warm Mediterranean sun and mistral winds, produces grapes of exceptional concentration and balance.
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep ruby with violet edges.
Nose: Dark cherry, blackberry compote, Provençal herbs, and a hint of black pepper.
Palate: supple, full-bodied layers of red and black fruit interwoven with silky tannins. The finish is long, spicy, and minerally.
Food Pairing
This wine shines alongside grilled lamb chops, wild boar ragu, or a rustic cassoulet. It also pairs beautifully with aged Comté or Gruyère cheese.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested grapes undergo gentle destemming and maceration for 3–4 weeks. Native yeast fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, followed by élevage in large, seasoned oak foudres to preserve freshness and terroir character.
