Guigal. Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Wine Rhône Valley
Domaine Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, a small, ancient village and the birthplace of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It boasts a unique vineyard, where vines and wine have been celebrated for 2,400 years. In 1961, at a very young age, Marcel Guigal took over the management of the estate alongside his father. His son, Philippe, is now the managing director and winemaker, representing the third generation. The estate currently comprises 75 hectares of vines.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, with careful sorting, followed by regular punch-downs and temperature control during fermentation. Fermentation takes place in closed stainless steel tanks for approximately three weeks. This wine is aged for 36 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
Tasting Notes
The wine has a deep, dark ruby red color. On the nose, aromas of spiced red berries are revealed. The wine also displays delicate oak notes and smooth, rounded tannins. The palate is full and structured with hints of raspberry, blackberry, and vanilla.
Serving suggestion: This wine pairs beautifully with game, red meats, and aged cheeses. It also complements spicy dishes, duck à l'orange, or lamb. Serve between 16°C and 18°C.
